Fringe, Tassles, and Suede with Rebecca Minkoff

Fall is slowly but surely making its presence known in Chicago.  As the cool breeze gently picks up the leaves, we trade in our straw hats for wide brim fedoras made of wool. Instead of letting the sun glisten our bare shoulders, we drape ourselves in the finest suede. Ladies and gentlemen, the season of fashion has arrived. That season is Fall.

One designer that certainly has us covered for our transition into fall is everyone’s favorite handbag designer Rebecca Minkoff.  Just by taking a stroll along Michigan Avenue, you’ll be hard pressed not to bump into a girl that’s carrying the signature fringe and tassels of a Rebecca Minkoff bag.

For over a decade, these downtown girls with a flair for romance and a touch of edge, have been flocking to get their hands on these highly covetable bags. With a need for affordable luxury, it came as no surprise that the Rebecca Minkoff brand was a surefire hit.

What started as an 8-year-old girl who loved to sew, is now a massive fashion empire that is taking the fashion industry by storm.  Famed for handbags, the brand has now grown to apparel, accessories, and even some wearable technology.

If her schedule wasn’t already packed, the steadily on the go designer fit Chicago into her busy schedule with a special appearance at Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue. As fans browsed around the fall collection, this was only a glimpse of what Chicagoans can expect when the designer opens her smart store in Chicago.  The Rebecca Minkoff smart store is one of the first stores of its kind with a seamless integration of fashion and technology. Similar to the store in New York, Rebecca is bringing the convenience of e-commerce within a brick and mortar environment. Dressing rooms feature adjustable lighting according to the occasion and shoppers can even order a drink all at the touch of a button.  When I asked about why the use technology, Rebecca stated “that our customer’s phone is an extension of her hand so it would be silly not to include that” Not one to keep herself in a box, Rebecca Minkoff has shown that she is constantly evolving along with her customer.

So when do we get to see even more of Rebecca? Stay on the lookout because the store is scheduled to make its debut in November or December and expect plenty of appearances from the designer herself. Can’t wait to check out the store!
